Catching up

Hope the New Year is off to a great start for you and yours. Let’s celebrate the delay of martial law with some Kreisler updates…

1. Speaking to Genentech national meeting end of the month. Ethics, cheating, behavioral science, some jokes. All my everythings.

2. Also Capital One, big meeting in Big D. More on my schedule.

3. Going to be in Copenhagen early March and Tokyo mid-May and want you to hang out / find me more cool things to do / gigs (comedy or speaking).

4. Recent press about my work
a. Another Washington Post shout out
b. An interview and book stuff about banking and fintech from Barcelona-based Strands, Barcelona based fintech
c. The Most Popular Article of 2018 for Behavioral Scientist
d. One and two of the many podcasts
e. Got a nice review from the Netherlands
f. Slovakia loves us, too! Favorite Google Translates:

  • “Kreisler – originally a lawyer from Princeton – has become a comic, a speaker, a feisty and a TV expert.” (A FEISTY!)
“The popular economics threatens to become all-pervading faith, but fortunately, Ariely and Kreisler are talking with the reader reasonably and with exaggeration.”
  • g. In Dutch! “Ariely & Kreisler depict us as we actually are – short-term, self-overestimating, often easily manipulated. By doing so, & abandoning the fiction of the rational man who is master of his own needs, desires, & choices, they also give us a chance to more truly become masters of our economic decisions, in reality and not just in the world of theories.
    h. More best of and holiday lists (including Central Florida’s leading LGBT hook up mag… Finally.)

    5. Don’t forget about PeopleScience!

Album, TV, NY Times, SCOTUS, Tour

Lots happening, little time to update this blog. Sorry.
Go Twitter or Facebook for actual news, opinions & cat pics (no cat pics).

In the meantime, a quick newsdump
    :
    1. We at The Final Edition just released an album.

It’s officially National Lampoon‘s first original album in 35 years (because we distro partnered with them to help rebuild their brand), but, really, the content, concept & execution is all us. Me, Tony Hendra, Barry Lank.
Listen, buy, rate & review (important!), share.
iTunes or CD Baby or TheFinalEdition.com

    2. I just taped a segment for a cool new TV show coming to Epix TV. I got to play a wise-cracking political comedian/pundit on a tv panel show… so it was a stretch.

    3. We – Final Edition again – also just produced a 3-part series on the Supreme Court for Howl (i.e. Earwolf) out later this month.

    4. The Comedy Against Evil political tour rolls on into oblivion. Book it before Trump outlaws laughter.

    5. I’m participating in an campaign debate – actually debating, not just wisecracking – the week before the election IN OHIO so I’ll probably swing the whole thing. Wish me luck.

    6. There was some other stuff – the NY Times likes the album, I’m doing my first talks on Behavioral Economics & the psychology of money next month for Duke and for Ann Taylor/LOFT, Donald Trump is basically following the playbook of my book (Get Rich Cheating), I’ve done projects recently with both geniuses and idiots but it’s hard to tell them apart, and I need more sleep – but who has time for all that?

    Jazzy Stand Up

Ever wonder what it’s like to tell jokes about heart surgery, the cult of technology, higher education & the Soviet suppression of dissent in front of Jerry Stiller and his family at a Lower East Side jazz bar after eating too much herring?

Neither had I, until it happened to me…

    Aspen Comedy

Here’s a little video hit from my visit to the Aspen Laff Festival. It was fun and it was free of all that pesky oxygen. I like to call my look in this video “sickly chic.”

    Rupert Murdoch Loves Me

Politics makes strange bedfellows, so apparently I’m sleeping with the NY Post.

This – “The greatest gags, tweets, jests and jokes from the past year” – is at least the 4th time they’ve loved me: Page 6 about Get Rich Cheating and two (or 3?) other “best jokes” mentions.

“As a male above age 30, I get all these targeted, personalized ads for, like, mortgages and sexual aids. So annoying! I don’t need information about mortgages.” — Jeff Kreisler

Look, if this is how I take down NewsCorp, this is how I take down NewsCorp.
    Beggars-choosers and all that…

    A new video?

So… always striving to get a good stand-up video… need decent lighting, decent crowd, decent choice from 90+ mins of material, decent decency. Here’s a set from this past weekend.
Better than previous videos (or previous videos)? Worse? Definitely less milquetoast material choices (I tend to post videos that I think have broad appeal – deluding myself that they’ll get me booked somewhere – & keep the passionate material confined to live performance, but that’s dumb, right?) Could be trimmed? How? Would you love me if I rubbed my head on your knee?

    Reviewing with the enemy

(sorry not many posts lately. BUSY! Check faceboook & twitter for latest news & dates [speaking of – NYC, headlining TONIGHT!, 9:30 at Caroline’s on Broadway).

Generally speaking, college newspaper reviews aren’t the best, and ones from self-labeled conservative papers are usually, um, rougher. But, since she liked me (and is capable of writing – I’m looking at you, {redacted} College), gotta admit, this one’s good. Lotta “aw shucks” lines. Like these:

“Jeff Kreisler, the man whose praises are constantly being sung by the country’s most influential publications for his ingenious political comedy routine, recently ignited the heights with deep belly laughs…

“Kreisler’s routine presented a humorous, satirical point of view of today’s world of politics. While he considers himself a liberal, much of his show pokes fun at American polity in general rather than featuring straightforward attacks on conservatives…

“Kreisler is a master at creating lines that are masked by a kind of humor that pokes fun at anything and everyone, including himself. Whatever his tactic, Kreisler can get his political points and opinions across, and still manages to find favor with the audience….

“Jeff Kreisler’s hilarious insights into society’s foibles combined with his intelligence, knack for humor, and genial spirits made for an excellent hour of political humor that could be appreciated by both Democrats and Republicans at Boston College.

“Kreisler serves as the intermediary comedic glue that has the power to unite political fronts across social spheres.”

    Awww… shucks.

    Comedy Comparison

Note 9/10: More on this here, on IFC.com

    Thoughts in process (running squirrels)…

At the Edinburgh Fringe Fest, each year comedians write an entirely new show. That show must be coherent, pointed, and funny. It is critiqued by reviewers and a discerning audience.

In the US, many comics find their funny, and just ride it, without ever being nudged to do more, different, or better, and without ever being critically compared within the comedy genre. There are plenty of exceptions, and the best comics are doing great, evolving work… but in the middle, or the upper-middle, there seems to be a flatness that is forced away in the UK.
Or do I have a distorted view of things?
    What say you?
